The First World War was one of the most significant events of the 20th Century, claiming the lives of more than 16 million people across the globe.
Even now, almost 100 year on, we are all connected to WWI through our own family history, the heritage of our local communities or the lasting impact the war left on generations of Australians.
Approximately 112,000 Victorians enlisted in World War I, of whom 19,000 did not return.
During the Anzac Centenary (2014 – 2018), the Victorian Government encourages all Victorians to share their own personal stories. These stories will serve as a reminder of the service of our forebears and to ensure their legacy lives on.
