The following 26 Victorian men were honoured for their outstanding valour on the battlefields of World War One and were recipients of the Victoria Cross, the British Empire’s highest award for bravery in wartime. Australia’s highest award since 1991 is the ‘Victoria Cross for Australia’, named in honour of the British Victoria Cross, and has been awarded to four Australians for their service in Afghanistan.
