Moving and powerful symbols of Anzac remembrance were illuminated by projections on the bluestone facade of NGV International on St Kilda Road in the week leading up to ANZAC Day 2015.

The powerful reminder of the events on ANZAC Day were shown through the use of iconic Anzac and Gallipoli paintings and photographs.

Works of art from the Australian War Memorial included official war artist George Lambert’s commissioned painting, Anzac, the landing 1915 (below) which records the events at Gallipoli on the morning of 25 April 1915.  The beach at Anzac, by Frank Crozier and various other art works created a powerful reminder of the sacrifice, courage and loss.

The projections included William Wiehe Collins, Landing at Anzac Cove, April 25th, 1915 (c. 1918) featured in NGV’s free exhibition Follow the Flag – Australian Artists and War 1914 – 45  which runs to 16 August 2015.

Projection artist Ian de Gruchy was commissioned to create the projection event as a way of remembering the sacrifice and memory of those who served.  Ian’s photographs taken at Anzac Cove, local Honour Walls and Memorials featured throughout the presentation.
