WWI Stories – Alick Rose

Dr Alan Rose shares the story of his father, Private Alick Thomas Rose.

Alick Rose was born on 2 November, 1896. He enlisted for service in the second year of World War One on 22 February, 1915. He was originally give the service number 647, which later changed to 4559.

He was a member of 23rd Battalion – Sapper, 5th Field Co. Engineers, which later became 8th Field Co. Engineers. Alick left Australia for service on 8 May, 1915. During his service he went from Egypt, to Gallipoli, to Malta, back to Egypt, then to England, Flanders and back to England.

Alick was repatriated as medically unfit on 6 June, 1918, and was honourably discharged as medically unfit on 13 September, 1918.
